The Bears don’t have much to worry about since they have won the NFC North, but the Jets will need to once again rid themselves of all controversial media headlines and focus on making it to the playoffs for the second straight year.
The Jets are still trying to recover from the suspension of strength conditioning coach Sal Alosi, after purposely tripping a Miami Dolphins player. But New York coach Rex Ryan was the star of this week’s headlines with his alleged foot-fetish videos floating around the internet. When asked about the videos, the controversial coach said it was a personal matter and did not go into any details.
But according to Ryan, he will not allow any of these distractions to take his mind away from the task at hand. “We’re going to be ready to play Chicago,” Ryan said. “I am ready. This is my job and I’m focused on the job at hand.”
The Jets now travel to face the Bears for the first time in 13 years, but come into the game with some confidence. Last week New York was able to bounce back from two straight losses when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 22-17. But with a struggling and hurt Mark Sanchez, will the Jets be able to pull off a much-needed win?
The Jets quarterback was limited in practice this week and is listed as probable. Sanchez has not thrown a touchdown pass in three games, with four interceptions. But last week against the Steelers he was able to give the Jets their first offensive touchdown in three weeks.
But now New York will face a strong Bears team that has clinched their third division title in six seasons. In order for Chicago to get a first-round bye in the playoffs they will need to beat the Jets and the Packers. The Bears are coming off a 40-14 Monday night win against the Minnesota Vikings.
